Introducing Hockey-Reference.com
Hockeydb might have some competition.
I just received an email from Justin Kubatko, vice-president of Sports Reference LLC, the company behind sites like Baseball-Reference, saying they've launched a hockey site full of similar statistics, some of which aren't widely available.
Want to see the all-time list of 301 NHLers born in British Columbia? Right here.
Some great stuff there.
If you have suggestions for the site, post them below and I'll pass them along.
UPDATE The Player Season Finder is brilliant and will really speed up some of the historical stats tidbits I put up here.

I'll be surprised if they can get all the information, but I'd love to see player jersey numbers listed on the per-year team rosters as well.
well, there goes my work day... week... month...
Sean Forman, the guy who created baseball-reference.com, is fantastic. He ran the place until December, and is now president of the company. I have sponsored pages there in the past, and will probably do so again once I am employed. I assume that hockey-reference will be as high quality.
I like the information at HockeyDb, but I find the site hard to use. I probably won't use it again, unless there is something very specific that I want that hockey-reference doesn't have.
@freeptop,
All that information is available in each teams respective media guide.
James - thanks for the info, another great resource indeed.
IIHF tournament rosters and stats are probably too much to ask. Many times I've tried to hunt down WJC rosters, finding it a huge pain.
Otherwise: it's about time! hockeydb was frustrating at times. Baseball-reference is invaluable, I'm looking forward to what they can do with hockey.
Interesting.
Strange how some of these sites use either incomplete data, or make calls differently...
Michael Leighton (currently with Carolina) played in goal about half a game for the Predators last year but that was it. HockeyDB doesn't think he exists at all, Hockey-Reference.com says he was on the Preds roster, but never played, while Yahoo Sports and NHL.com correctly report his stats for the one game he played with us at the NHL level.
I do not envy stats guys these weird judgment calls they have to make
@paul nicholson
According to HockeyDB Mike Leighton played one game for the Predators (with a GAA of 6.07)

As a serious baseball nerd, BBRef has been invaluable to me. If their hockey site is just as good, we're in for a treat.
I'm not that big of a baseball guy, but the site always impressed me.
I think they're going to find a big audience for their hockey site.
Does anyone know what goals created per game is?
Here's their explanation: Goals created; calculated by adding goals scored to (assists divided by (team assists divided by team goals)), then multiplying by 0.5. Here is an example. In 2006-07, Sidney Crosby had 36 goals and 84 assists. The Penguins as a team had 267 goals and 468 assists. Thus Crosby is credited with 0.5 * (36 + (84 / (468 / 267))) = 42.0 goals created. Note that the sum of player goals created is equal to the sum of player goals scored for all teams.
I'm not that familiar with the stat.
Al Ryder has a decent explanation here
This site already has one huge advantage over HockeyDB; no pop-up ads...
Dirk, you're one to talk! :-)
Popup ads? what are those?
The internet still has ads? Dirk has ads?
Oh wait...
Firefox + AdBlock = better web. Hee.
I seriously didn't know HockeyDB or Dirk's site had ads or popups :-)
Thank you Dr. Mirtle...You're a beast
This would have been handy for building my Saskatchewan All-Star team in EA NHL05.
Pop-ups? There shouldn't be any pop-ups over at my site. If there are, please let me know immediately and I'll look into it.
is there a way we can see transactions of a player on their page?
Now that's a good idea.
