Fantasy feelings
It's only four weeks in, but here are the standings so far in the two online hockey pools I'm running, the first being for bloggers and black aces, and the second as an open invitational (where the winners get promoted for next season):
Swedish Elite League
- Cousin BJ - 29-13-10, 68 pts.
- Mirtle - 31-17-4, 66
- MetroGnome - 29-16-7, 65
- Pension Plan Puppets - 30-18-4, 64
- The Forechecker - 28-19-5, 61
- Six Pack (Bob @ The Score) - 25-16-11, 61

- Matt Gunn - 22-22-8, 52
- Earl Sleek - 21-22-9, 51
- Ian Denomme, Globe ringer - 23-27-2, 48
- Chris!, Covered in Oil - 19-24-9, 47

- Dan Tolensky, HockeyBuzz - 15-32-5, 35
Kamloops representative Cousin BJ is leading with Cam Ward and Johan Holmqvist, and a cast up front led by Jaromir Jagr, Mike Cammalleri and Ray Whitney.
This is such a deep pool that the top-ranked player on free agency is Anton Volchenkov, he of two assists. There's not a single active goaltender available, and I've got Jim Howard on my team. (Yikes!)

- Mirtle - 42-6-4, 88

- Burninators - 30-17-5, 65

Thanks for that James!
I'd just like to point out that my boys are on the rise after losing the first two weeks 10-1 and 10-2.
This team was built for the playoffs and we still think we'll be there at the end when it matters.
DT
My team has been hurt big time by injuries (Semin, Emery, Tucker, N. Kronwall, McCabe) or just plain poor play (Tucker, Conroy, Ryder, Prucha). When Emery gets his starting role back look out because Emery and Kiprusoff should dominate.
Not if Gerber has something to say about it!
Like I said, it's really close right now; I'll put this up in another four weeks and see how much things have changed.
Drumheller Miners, claimed.
Jason LaBarbera's renaissance five games in has saved my season, I think. I was just about ready to give up on him, too. Also, COOOOOOOOGS!!!
Chris Mason's struggles have really hurt me the last few weeks. That and the fact that the Canadiens seem determined to alternate between Huet and Price.
If Mason doesn't turn it around at some point (and it's really starting look like he won't) Im in big trouble...
I'm in massive trouble with the PhatCat HC roster. High picks that haven't exactly panned out: Hossa, Wellwood, Boyle. In conjunction with not having a clue about head2head and being unprepated for a roster of 20, my season is over. All that is left to do now is wait for Iggy through the dispersal sweepstakes...
Let's go DJ and PPP!
Emery will still get the majority of the starts even with Gerber playing well. Emery is supposedly starting tomorrow after a long layoff which should give you an idea of how the coach and management views their two goalies.
Let's put it this way: I wouldn't trade Gerber straight up for Emery right now. He's playing too well for him to not get a lot of starts, and if Emery falters in his comeback, he may really become the backup.
There's also the chance Gerber gets to go somewhere else and become a starter, although I can't see where that opening might be.
I should join up on you next year Mirtle. I have not lost once in a hockey pool and I am 10/10 and reigning 3 years in one pool with nebcanuck and going on my 4th,
Obviously, drafting goalies with my first two picks aren't paying off. D'oh!
Yeah, yeah, I'm Scotty Hockey and I got b-tch smacked by Mirtle last week. Just be prepared, its a long season ....
